SCG, a leading provider of building materials and construction solutions, needed a way to optimize the operation and maintenance of their plastering machines deployed across various construction sites. Our custom-built IoT solution provides real-time monitoring of machine usage, performance, and location, enabling proactive maintenance and optimized operation. This battery-powered solution ensures continuous monitoring, even when the machine is off, and features robust GPS tracking for accurate location data, even in challenging environments. By providing valuable insights and streamlining maintenance processes, this solution helps SCG maximize machine efficiency, reduce downtime, and prolong the lifespan of their equipment.

The IoT devices were deployed in diverse and challenging construction environments, including outdoor sites with varying weather conditions and indoor locations within high-rise buildings and large structures. These environments presented several challenges, such as fluctuating temperatures, exposure to dust and moisture, and potential signal interference for GPS tracking. The devices were designed to withstand these harsh conditions and ensure reliable operation, with features like a weatherproof enclosure, robust GPS module with an external antenna, and efficient power management for extended battery life.

- Improved Machine Location Tracking: The GPS tracking feature has enabled efficient location identification of machines on construction sites, saving time and effort for SCG’s team and their clients.
- Enhanced Rental Management: Real-time usage reports allow SCG to monitor machine utilization, identify idle machines, and optimize rental operations, leading to increased efficiency and revenue generation.
- Improved Electricity Grid Quality Monitoring: The system has demonstrated its value by identifying electricity grid quality issues at customer sites, preventing motor breakdowns and saving SCG’s customers significant costs (approximately 40,000 Baht per motor in two instances).
- Prolonged Machine Lifespan: Timely spare part replacements and proactive maintenance, driven by the system’s data and alerts, have helped extend the lifespan of the plastering machines, maximizing their return on investment for SCG.
