My Approach & Contributions

Maltech, a leading provider of plastering machines in Thailand, faced significant challenges in effectively managing their fleet of M5 evolution machines. Traditional tracking methods were inaccurate, hindering maintenance scheduling and optimization. Furthermore, the unique electrical configuration of these machines presented a significant hurdle. Operating on a non-standard 42V power supply (unlike the readily available 220V or 380V systems) and lacking a neutral line, the risk of short circuits was a constant concern. This unusual setup made integrating a monitoring system particularly complex and required innovative solutions to ensure safety and reliability. Maltech needed a system that provided real-time insights into machine operation while navigating these unique electrical constraints.

We developed and implemented an innovative IoT solution to address Maltech’s needs, tackling the power challenges head-on. Our system provides real-time monitoring of their M5 evolution plastering machines, delivering critical data on usage, performance, and location. We engineered a specialized power management module to safely tap into the 42V supply, mitigating the risk of short circuits and ensuring stable operation. This custom-designed hardware, combined with our user-friendly platform, empowered Maltech to take control of their machine operations.

The Results

From Reactive to Proactive: Maximizing Efficiency and Minimizing Downtime

Safe and Reliable Operation: The system operates safely and reliably within the constraints of the M5’s unique 42V power system, eliminating the risk of short circuits and ensuring continuous operation. Description: Integrating our industrial IoT monitoring system, built with Node-RED for seamless device integration, with the M5’s non-standard 42V power supply, which lacks a neutral line, presented a significant electrical engineering challenge. Our custom-designed power management module addresses this challenge, mitigating the inherent risk of short circuits and ensuring the system’s safe and uninterrupted operation. This robust design provides Maltech with peace of mind, knowing their construction equipment and personnel are protected.

15% Improved Machine Efficiency: Improved machine efficiency by 15% by optimizing usage and proactively addressing maintenance needs. Description: By accurately tracking actual machine usage and identifying areas for improvement through our remote monitoring platform, we’ve enabled Maltech to optimize their construction operations. This 15% efficiency gain translates to more productive use of their equipment, allowing them to complete projects faster and potentially take on additional work.

20% Reduced Downtime: Reduced downtime by 20% through real-time monitoring and alerts. Description: Real-time monitoring, powered by our industrial IoT solution, provides instant visibility into the status of each machine. Automated alerts, facilitated by MQTT for reliable communication, notify Maltech’s service team of potential issues before they escalate into major breakdowns. This proactive approach has significantly reduced downtime by 20%, ensuring smoother construction operations and minimizing project delays.

3-Year Extended Machine Lifespan (Average): Extended machine lifespan by an average of 3 years through timely spare part replacement and proactive maintenance. Description: Predictive maintenance, driven by the data insights from our remote equipment monitoring system, allows Maltech to replace worn parts before they cause catastrophic failures. This proactive approach not only prevents costly repairs but also extends the average lifespan of their M5 evolution machines by an estimated three years, maximizing their return on investment in their construction equipment.

40,000 Baht Saved Per Motor (Estimated): Prevented at least 3-4 instances of motor overloading, saving the client approximately 40,000 Baht per motor in replacement costs. Description: Our comprehensive overload protection, a key feature of our industrial IoT solution, continuously monitors motor current, preventing the conditions that lead to costly motor damage. By preventing just a few instances of overloading, the system has already saved Maltech an estimated 40,000 Baht per motor in replacement costs, significantly impacting their bottom line in construction equipment maintenance.

Increased Revenue: The system’s ability to alert end-users about spare part replacements accelerated sales revenue for Maltech. Description: Beyond operational efficiency, our remote monitoring system also provides a direct boost to Maltech’s revenue stream. By proactively alerting end-users about the need for spare part replacements, the system encourages timely purchases, leading to increased spare part sales for Maltech.

Enhanced Safety: Motor current monitoring helped prevent overloading, reducing the risk of accidents and equipment damage. Description: Safety is paramount in any construction environment. Our system’s continuous motor current monitoring, a vital component of our industrial IoT solution, helps prevent overloading, a common cause of accidents and equipment damage. By mitigating this risk, we’ve contributed to a safer working environment for Maltech’s clients and their personnel.

Optimized Rental Management: Real-time usage reports allowed the client to monitor machine utilization, identify idle machines, and optimize rental operations. Description: For Maltech’s construction equipment rental business, our system provides valuable insights into machine utilization. Real-time usage reports, accessible through our remote monitoring platform, allow them to identify idle machines, optimize rental schedules, and maximize the revenue potential of their equipment fleet. This data-driven approach to rental management improves efficiency and profitability.
